ACLU lawsuits to remove the Ten Commandments from government
buildings in Georgia and other states had at least one study-group member, Mike Welsh, wondering how the Judeo-Christian heritage
could be preserved.
"Could we get the Ten back into the public?" he wondered.
The result is TenForUS, a logo Mr. Welsh will introduce at a rally at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Columbia County Justice Center
on Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans.
He will display the logo in red, white and blue and a black-and-white version on apparel and items such as coasters and
bumper stickers.
The items can be bought on Mr. Welsh's Web site, www.TenForUs.com. It's the only place they can be ordered for now.
"We just missed this year's Christian Booksellers Convention. We just weren't ready," said Mr. Welsh, who plans to attend
next year.
He is lining up speakers and entertainment for the rally. The event will be an opportunity for the "new South" to speak
its voice about what is important to its residents, said Mr. Welsh, a business consultant.
The TenForUS Web site already is getting 100 hits a day before its Thursday launch.
Dick Sheets, a former Augusta-area artist who now lives in Richmond, Va., designed the logo. It was his decision to use
the tablets in the design.
It suggests permanence, Mr. Welsh said.
The Web site carries the project's slogan, Know It, Show It and Live It.
To counter the drive to sideline the Ten Commandments, people need to know them and display them, but the most important
part is to live them, he said.
"Because if you don't live it, it is not important. If you live it, then it will be written on the tablet of your heart,
which is what God wanted in the first place," Mr. Welsh said.
